Bournemouthβs coastline is one long ribbon of soft, golden sand but each stretch has its own character. Here is how to choose the right one for your day, from west to east.
Alum Chine Beach
Sheltered and family-focused, Alum Chine is known for its tropical-themed gardens tumbling down to the sea and a well-loved adventure playground just behind the sand.
Durley Chine Beach
A little closer to the centre, Durley Chine is a relaxed, spacious beach with beach huts, watersports and easy seafront parking.
Bournemouth Beach
The main event. Bournemouth Beach sits either side of the pier, with the fullest range of cafΓ©s, deckchairs and facilities and the liveliest atmosphere in summer.
Boscombe Beach
Home to the restored pier and a surf reef, Boscombe Beach has a creative, laid-back feel and some of the best independent cafΓ©s on the front.
Southbourne Beach
Quieter and more local, Southbourne Beach offers dog-friendly sands and a gentle clifftop backdrop away from the crowds.
Before you go
Most of these beaches hold Blue Flag and Seaside Awards for water quality and cleanliness. Check tide times, pack sun cream for our sunny microclimate, and see whatβs on at the seafront during your visit.
